Character: Fran
Series: Stargate Atlantis
Version: Episode 11
Age: Brand new!
Gender: Female in appearance
Sexuality: N/A
Appearance: Fran looks to be a human woman in her late-twenties, with dark brown hair and eyes. She stands at an average height and of no exceptional build. She is visually unremarkable, pretty but in a common sort of way, except for the fact that she is flawless. Not an eyelash is out of place on her. Fran possesses the sort of physical perfection that not even a doll can manage. She wears a simple, cream-colored smock which has a vaguely Lantian look to it, and a perpetual, blithe smile.
Personality: Fran has had little time to develop a personality as she was never supposed to exist longer than a day. She is pleasant and genial to anyone she meets and enjoys meeting new people. She desires only to be helpful to her creators. Her only goal in life up to now was to complete the task for which she was created, to activate a program that would destroy the beings from which she herself was developed.
Abilities/Weaponry: Fran's body is composed of nano-bots which can adapt quickly to changing circumstances and 'heal' any damage her body takes from a conventional weapon. She will ‘soak’ bullets or knives and the area around the impact will appear silver and viscous for a moment before reforming to how they were before. She also possesses superior strength and speed to that of a human being, still operating well within the laws of physics, but beyond what a mammal could do. She could probably lift a volkswagon, but not a hummer. Fran is essentially a computer, and she stores information digitally. It is perfectly easy for her to record what she is seeing or hearing and save it for reference later. She recognizes people through facial-recognition software and so distinguishes people’s faces based upon minute details of their bone structure and so will not be confused by basic changes in eye or hair colors. Fran can interface with other computers with varying degrees of success. She has been able to access the network on which the journals operate and can search the available database there. In short, if it is available on the journals or message board, she knows it.
Weaknesses: Most of the base-code for the nanites that comprise her body has been turned off. She would have many useful abilities, including being able to read minds, network with other machines and replicate new androids, but all of that programming is currently inaccessible to her and she can not reactivate it herself. Also, the nanites comprising Fran's body can not replicate, and so when individual 'cells' are damaged, they can not be replaced, in essence, if you shot her for long enough, eventually she would not have enough component cells to form a human shape anymore.
History: The Replicators, a race of androids comprised of replicating nano-bot sells, had become a greater threat to humanity within the Pegasus Galaxy than the Wrathe they had been created to destroy. Because of this, Doctor McKay wrote a program to upload into the Replicators' base code which would pull them all into one central location so that they could then be destroyed all at once. If the Replicators were not destroyed in a single blow and if just one nanite remained, it could recreate the entire race over again and all that would have been accomplished would be a temporary setback to their conquest.
To deliver the program, Doctor McKay attempted to created a cube of nanites based upon the original blueprints for the Replicators' but running only a stripped down version of their programming. Doctor McKay made many attempts to get the nano-bots to ‘stick’ to each other and form a cube, but each time the cube collapsed into a puddle of disconnected cells. Eventually Doctor McKay reactivated the program that would make them form a human shape, finding that using this portion of the original code was a much easier way to solve the problem.
It was pleased to exist, and to help its creators. It greeted its creators happily and smiled at them as they discussed its fate. It noticed that its creators had names, and it asked to have one as well. Doctor McKay named it Fran, which he said was short for 'Friendly Android'. Fran was pleased to have a name. Fran helped Doctor McKay finalize his strategy for the most efficient way to deliver the program held within it to the Replicators.
It did not understand when Doctor McKay asked if it had reservations about completing its task. True that the implementing of it's special program would result in its own destruction, as well as that of the Replicators, but was not any being's greatest joy to complete their intended purpose? Doctor McKay did not answer, but simply looked puzzled and stopped talking to it.
